The Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God
January 1 – Feast of Mary, Mother of God
Beloved in the Lord, let us lift our minds to the glorious Virgin Mary, the Mother of God, in whom the mercy of the Most High has wrought a wonder beyond all human understanding. In the beginning, the Creator fashioned man and woman in His image, to be fruitful, holy, and obedient, living in harmony with His will. In that first paradise, marriage and the lusts of the flesh were not yet needed, for man and woman were to bear fruit in virtue, in obedience, and in communion with God. The Fall brought corruption; the desires of the flesh entered, and marriage was permitted as a concession to human weakness (Genesis 3:16).
But behold the Virgin Mary, the New Eve, who, in humility and obedience, restores what was lost. She bears the New Adam, our Lord Jesus Christ, yet remains ever-virgin. Her fruitfulness is not of the flesh, but of the Spirit, producing the salvation of the world and the spiritual children of the …More

Guangxi: Police Deploy Irritant Gas to Flatten a Temple

Longfu Temple in Hezhou, legally rebuilt in 2024, was destroyed despite local villagers’ protests and resistance.

On December 23, in Xinglongzhai
Village, Zhongshan County, Hezhou City, Guangxi, the Chinese Communist Party once again demonstrated its unique interpretation of “religious management”: if it exists, demolish it; if villagers resist, gas them; if anyone films it, arrest them.
This time, the target was Longfu Temple, a modest folk‑religion shrine rebuilt by villagers with their own savings after decades of neglect. The temple had stood in the area for generations, long enough that locals cannot even remember when it first appeared. But in today’s China, longevity may be a liability.
As villagers reported, the local government dispatched more than 100 personnel, including police, firefighters, and medical staff, to carry out a “forced demolition operation.” One might think such a large team was preparing to …

Not a church - but read to learn about China: On December 23, 2025, police in Xinglongzhai Village, Hezhou, Guangxi forcibly demolished Longfu Temple, a folk-religion shrine rebuilt by villagers in 2024–2025 with private donations. Despite no prior objections during reconstruction, authorities suddenly labeled the temple an illegal structure and deployed over 100 personnel to carry out the demolition. Villagers protested, forming human barricades; clashes followed, resulting in arrests and injuries. Police ultimately fired irritant gas into the temple to force out women sheltering inside before razing the building. The incident reflects a broader campaign by the Chinese Communist Party to suppress religious and community spaces viewed as ideologically uncontrollable, highlighting growing tensions between state power, local communities, and cultural memory.

On this day, January 3rd, the Church celebrates the Most Holy Name of Jesus!
The celebration was established eight days after the birth of Christ, when he was circumcised and named Jesus. Despite its origins being as old as Christianity itself, the devotion to the name of Jesus developed primarily from the 12th and 13th centuries onwards. The first references to devotion to the "Holy Name" can be found in the texts of Saint Anselm of Canterbury (1109) and Saint Bernard of Clairvaux (1153).
However, the great "Apostle" of devotion to the Most Holy Name of Jesus is Saint Bernardino of Siena (1444). This Franciscan priest traveled throughout Italy preaching devotion to the name of Jesus, often as a means of reconciling rival families and factions.
Saint Bernardino used to preach holding a tablet with the monogram IHS, formed by the first three letters of the name of Jesus in Greek (Iota-Epsilon-Sigma).
Later, the abbreviation was also interpreted as the Latin acronym "Jesus Hominum Salvator …More

REALITY CHECK Last night’s London fireworks weren’t just a celebration — they were messaging. England was quietly redefined. England was blurred into the “United Kingdom.” England is a country. The UK is a statutory political union — not a nation. When people don’t know the difference, power fills the gap. Identity is softened. Consent is manufactured. This wasn’t accidental. And it wasn’t harmless. Most people were never taught this. Watch the breakdown. Share if this made you stop and think.

People love saying “all religions lead to God” because it sounds polite, enlightened, and non confrontational, but the moment you slow down and actually think about what that claim means, it completely falls apart.
If all religions lead to the same God, then truth no longer matters, contradiction no longer matters, and doctrine is just aesthetic preference.
At that point, God is no longer Someone who has revealed Himself, but a vague spiritual concept you can project anything onto.
And then you have to ask the obvious question: if all paths are equal, are we really saying that a blue-skinned Hindu deity with multiple arms, a trident, and an entirely different cosmology is just another costume God put on?
Are we supposed to pretend this is just another “route” to the same destination, like choosing Waze instead of Google Maps? Because if that’s the case, then why not go further and say a Marvel-like character named Shiva leads me to God too?
If doctrine doesn’t matter, history doesn’t …More

Young Europeans Welcome 2026 in Prayer | Shalom World News
As 2025 gave way to 2026, thousands of young Catholics and Christians from diverse traditions converged on Paris, transforming the city into a living pilgrimage of prayer, song, and hope. From December 28 to January 1, the French capital and the wider Île-de-France region hosted the 48th European Meeting organized by the Taizé Community—an ecumenical journey drawing 15,000 young people aged 18 to 35, including 1,000 participants from Ukraine. Nearly 60 brothers of the Taizé Community took part, embodying the vocation for which the community was founded in 1940: to be a sign of unity within the Church and the wider human family. Prayer echoed through Paris’s great churches, while the Accor Arena—filled each afternoon—became a vast space of silence, song, and shared longing for peace. Beyond formal gatherings, the meeting unfolded in homes and neighborhoods. Families across Paris opened their doors, joined by parishes, schools …More

1960 : When Heaven forgot to observe the "vacancy of the Apostolic See"

The setting of the date of 1960 for the opening of the third part of the secret of Fatima is a central fact, attested by the Archives of the Diocese of Leiria.
Sister Lucie wrote this text in April 1944, on the explicit order of her bishop, and placed it in a sealed envelope.
This envelope bears the indication that it should be opened at the latest in 1960, an indication confirmed by Bishop João Venâncio in several testimonies of the 1950s.
In a letter from 1955, preserved in the Archives of the Holy Office, Sister Lucie states that the secret should be known in 1960 because “then it will be clearer”.
We are under Pius XII and it speaks neither of a change of pope, nor of a breach of legitimacy, nor of a judgment against Roman authority.
This clarification excludes any interpretation that the date was chosen to denounce a future pope.
It is fundamental to remember that, in the logic of the apparitions, this date is not a human initiative but an indication received and transmitted under …More

Could reducing Sunday Mass locations be a key to increasing Catholic church attendance?

The Gazette offers audio versions of articles using Instaread. Some words may be mispronounced.
LUXEMBURG — Since the 1800s, two institutions have been a constant for families in Luxemburg: Holy Trinity Catholic Church and Ungs Shopping Center.
At the small town’s four-way stop intersection, Holy Trinity’s steeple has towered over the town’s general store, just across the street from the church, since 1875. The Ungs family has been part of Luxemburg since the church’s first construction in 1857.
For decades, Mike Ungs, the fourth generation in his family to run the store for groceries, sundries and farm supplies, has watched the two change with the times — often in tandem.
Growing up, he remembers how hours at the family business used to be set around Mass.
“It used to be a big part of our business,” Ungs said. “You’d sell eight or 10 dozen doughnuts (on Sunday.) Sunday was family day, so people would pick up sliced meat for picnics.”
In the 1860s or 1870s, before it was sold to …

Pretty simple solution - Have Vespers Saturday night, and one Holy Mass on Sunday from 10:00am - 12:00 noon.
Then have a pot luck lunch
( Like the Orthodox )

Cut the crap... the real problem is not enough priests - even with church attendance in single digits. Reduce Mass locations? That just means you "hope" people will care enough to travel to get to a N.O. Mass far from their locale so it will "look" full. But the decline is still happening! There is NO increase!!

Professor William A. Thomas delivers a sobering analysis of the moral and spiritual unraveling of the West, tracing its roots to humanity’s rebellion against God and the Church’s retreat from truth. He critiques the rise of doctrinal ambiguity, the silence on sin and hell, and the emotionalism driving today’s “synodal” experiments. Thomas warns that modernism, relativism, and Marxist ideologies are being repackaged as reform, while in reality they are eroding catechesis, doctrine, and Catholic identity. He urges a return to the clarity of apostolic teaching, devotion to Our Lady of Fatima, and the sacred liturgy.

During the deadly New Year’s Eve fire at a crowded ski bar in Crans-Montana, one survivor shared a powerful testimony. She said that a friend of hers had become trapped and could not find a way out. He sat down where he was and held a cross in his hand. According to her, the flames never touched him. "The fire just avoided him. There were flames all around, but not on him. " He later escaped alive. Although officials have not verified the details, the woman described what she witnessed as a miracle.

The Forgotten Feast That Explains Our Salvation
The celebration of the circumcision of Jesus emphasizes the fulfillment of the Old Covenant and the importance of the New Covenant. It highlights Jesus’ humanity, received entirely from Mary, and His shedding of blood, a precursor to His sacrifice on the cross. This feast affirms Jesus’ true humanity and challenges our understanding of our own dignity and worth.
Obedience to God’s will is a reflection of our dignity and His love for us. Like Mary, Joseph, and Jesus, we are called to accept and live according to our dignity by striving to do God’s will.
