Early christian Nativitity without Mary and Joseph [330-335]
Unusually, Mary is absent from this Nativity. As usual, the ox and ass approach the child, who is swaddled in a crib supported by tree-like bushes. The figure on the left is one of the shepherds. On the right side: Presumably this is the woman who touched the hem of Jesus' garment in the hope that would cure her flow of blood (Matthew 9:20-22, Mark 5:25-29, Luke 8:43-44).
