(ROME) – Speaking at a March 16th conference in Limburg, Germany, the long-time Vatican correspondent Andreas Englisch has delivered an explosive allegation: In contradiction of public appearances, Pope Francis and Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI “are in complete disagreement” and “never speak to one another.” The Pope Emeritus has apparently stated that he only appears in public “at the explicit request of Pope Francis.” What is shown on these occasions, Englisch continues, is “only the pretense of friendship.” Complete article

Why don't we "get over it" and quit talking about what is, what was and whatever shall be and instead direct our efforts as to what we as individuals must do.
I therefore enjoy the "lettuce" interpretation and dream that perhaps there is a parallel universe in which all popes are elected unanimously and follow such a pope without a single dissenter forever after.

I was overjoyed when Cardinal Ratzinger was elected pope. He promulgated two superb documents: Summorum Pontificum and Anglicanorum Coetibus will be consequential for many years. Because he was not really an adminstrator, he needed an effective Sec of State, which Cardinal Bertone was not.
