Meditation Three reflections on the past year Santoral by Juan Esteban Grosez, S.J. 1.-Could you say with truth like St. Paul: I have fought with courage, I have concluded the race, I have kept the faith? Here you are at the end of the year; review in your spirit all the good and all the evil you have done during this year, and see if your good deeds are more numerous than the bad ones. How many days passed without you doing anything for God? However, this year was given to you only to serve him, to do penance for your sins and deserve heaven through the practice of good works. 2.-Where are now the pleasures and honors that you enjoyed during this year? Everything has passed, and you only have the sad memory of having offended God for passing and fallacious goods! Isn't it true that, on the contrary, you experience great joy for the good you did trying to please God? You no longer experience the effort that your good deeds cost you and you hope to be rewarded by them. Your life will pass …More

During pregnancy, a small number of the baby's cells naturally pass through the placenta and enter the mother's blood circulation. This phenomenon, called fetal microchimerism, allows tiny groups of these fetal cells to settle in the mother's body and persist there for decades following childbirth. What makes this particularly fascinating is that many of these fetal cells function similarly to stem cells. They can travel throughout the body, integrate into various tissues, and, in certain instances, respond to sites of injury. Studies conducted over the last twenty years have detected fetal cells in areas undergoing repair, such as healing heart muscle, regenerating skin, recovering liver tissue, and other organs involved in regeneration. Some of these cells seem able to differentiate into the specific cell types required for repair—for example, becoming cardiac muscle cells, liver cells, or immune cells. Others may play a supportive role by secreting substances that promote tissue …More
The death penalty always bothered me. For a few reasons. Forgive and you shall be forgiven. And there is no greater punishment on earth than to pay for their crimes. There is always a chance they can convert. Be merciful as your Father in Heaven is merciful. Luke 6:36. It's always bothered me a lot. I can't see the purpose of ending a life. And not only that, but he gets away with years of punishment and gives him the easy way out by death. He ill be punished in the next life as it is. I just don't see how it's a good thing at all.
