To answer your question, the "hoax" is the scale of the problem. The number of deaths have been falsely inflated. People are dying, but many are dying of other things and then the experts say "it was covid-related" when it was not.
I don't know about Ecuador, but I do know that in 2019 the US averaged 6000 deaths a day from natural causes. That's 180,000 every 30 days.
