FSSPX to Continue Lourdes Pilgrimage Despite Bishop’s Restrictions The Priestly Fraternity of Saint Pius X (SSPX) has announced that it will continue its annual pilgrimage to Lourdes. Following the episcopal consecrations on July 1 in Ecône, Bishop Jean-Marc Micas of Tarbes and Lourdes withdrew permission for the SSPX to celebrate public Masses, administer sacraments, or organize public prayers at Lourdes. In an August 22 statement, Fr. Gonzague Peignot, superior of the FSSPX in France, announced that the Fraternity intends to continue coming to Lourdes every year, “Our Lady does not deserve to be abandoned despite the obstacles,” he said. The FSSPX expressed 'sorrow and incomprehension', questioning the bishop's decision and pointing to the interreligious Christian-Muslim pilgrimage that was welcomed at the sanctuary in October 2025. Una Voce clarifies why traditional Latin Mass pilgrims were denied access to St. Peter’s Basilica. The International Federation Una Voce (FIUV) has issued today a statement correcting misunderstandings surrounding this year’s Summorum Pontificum Pilgrimage to Rome. According to FIUV, the Vatican Secretariat of State rejected the organizers’ request to celebrate the traditional Latin Mass in St. Peter’s Basilica in August. The organizers then sought permission for a collective devotion inside the Basilica, as had been permitted in 2023 and 2024 despite the refusal of Mass. That request was also rejected in a letter dated September 30, which reached the organizers only in October. Thus, pilgrims were denied not only Mass in St. Peter’s, but also permission for organized communal prayer inside the Basilica. Full statement “Many members and supporters take part in the pilgrimage and we as an organisation are a member of the Caetus Internationalis Summorum Pontificum; we regard the annual pilgrimage as having great significance for the movement for the Traditional Mass. We would like to correct some misunderstandings which have arisen over the organisation of the pilgrimage this year. The authorities (through the Secretariat of State) declined the Coetus’ request for the celebration of Mass in St Peter’s, in August. At that point it was hoped and assumed that it would nevertheless be possible to have a collective devotion of some kind for the pilgrims, in St Peter’s, as happened in 2023 and 2024 when permission for Mass was refused. The August letter did not rule this out, so the Coetus requested it. The Letter from the Secretary of State shows the Ad Petri Sedem procession was refused entry to St Peter’s on 30 September, weeks before the event, yet pilgrims were only told the day before. However the Saint Peter's Sacristy had indicated 1 pm was feasible; Secretariat of State still blocked it.
