Atti degli Apostoli 16,1-10.
In quei giorni, Paolo si recò a Derbe e a Listra. C'era qui un discepolo chiamato Timòteo, figlio di una donna giudea credente e di padre greco;
egli era assai stimato dai fratelli di Listra e di Icònio.
Paolo volle che partisse con lui, lo prese e lo fece circoncidere per riguardo ai Giudei che si trovavano in quelle regioni; tutti infatti sapevano che suo padre era greco.
Percorrendo le città, trasmettevano loro le decisioni prese dagli apostoli e dagli anziani di Gerusalemme, perché le osservassero.
Le comunità intanto si andavano fortificando nella fede e crescevano di numero ogni giorno.

Jesus said to his disciples: "If the world hates you, realize that it hated me first.
If you belonged to the world, the world would love its own; but because you do not belong to the world, and I have chosen you out of the world, the world hates you.
Remember the word I spoke to you, 'No slave is greater than his master.' If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will also keep yours.
And they will do all these things to you on account of my name, because they do not know the one who sent me."

En ces jours-là, Paul, qui avait quitté Antioche avec Silas, arriva ensuite à Derbé, puis à Lystres. Il y avait là un disciple nommé Timothée ; sa mère était une Juive devenue croyante, mais son père était Grec.
À Lystres et à Iconium, les frères lui rendaient un bon témoignage.
Paul désirait l’emmener ; il le prit avec lui et le fit circoncire à cause des Juifs de la région, car ils savaient tous que son père était Grec.
Dans les villes où Paul et ses compagnons passaient, ils transmettaient les décisions prises par les Apôtres et les Anciens de Jérusalem, pour qu’elles entrent en vigueur.
Les Églises s’affermissaient dans la foi et le nombre de leurs membres augmentait chaque jour. Acts of the Apostles 16,1-10.
Paul reached (also) Derbe and Lystra where there was a disciple named Timothy, the son of a Jewish woman who was a believer, but his father was a Greek.
The brothers in Lystra and Iconium spoke highly of him,
and Paul wanted him to come along with him. On account of the Jews of that region, Paul had him circumcised, for they all knew that his father was a Greek.
As they traveled from city to city, they handed on to the people for observance the decisions reached by the apostles and presbyters in Jerusalem.
Day after day the churches grew stronger in faith and increased in number. They traveled through the Phrygian and Galatian territory because they had been prevented by the holy Spirit from preaching the message in the province of Asia. Maravillas de Jesús) En manos de la Virgen María, continuamos con la vida y obra de santa Maravillas de Jesús. La madre Maravillas trabajó incansablemente por extender la Orden del Carmelo, sin ahorrar esfuerzos ni sacrificios para abrir nuevas «Casas de la Virgen». Le impulsaba el deseo de llevar almas al Señor. En 1933, fundó un Carmelo en Kottayam (India) enviando ocho monjas, al que quiso ir en persona, pero no pudo por orden de sus superiores. Durante la Guerra Civil, a petición del Obispo de Coria-Cáceres fundó otro Carmelo en Las Batuecas, siendo cedido años más tarde a los padres carmelitas descalzos en 1950, trasladando la comunidad a Cabrera (Salamanca). Pochi i dati biografici su Giovenale, mentre sicure sono quelle che riguardano il suo culto. Il codice Bernense del Martirologio Geronimiano lo ricorda il 3 maggio unito ai tre martiri della via Nomentana e nelle Homiliae in Evangelium ricorda un vescovo di Narni, di nome Giovenale, qualificandolo martire. I Martirologi di Floro e di Adone lo menzionano con questa indicazione: «Natale sancti Juvenalis episcopi et confessoris». Di Giovenale esiste inoltre una «Vita» scritta dopo il secolo VII di scarso valore storico, secondo cui, egli era di origine africana e, ordinato da papa Damaso, fu primo vescovo di Narni. Sempre secondo questa «Vita», fu sepolto alla Porta Superiore della città sulla via Flaminia. Il sepolcro di Giovenale, su cui fu costruito un oratorio attribuito al suo successore Massimo, fu molto onorato nell'antichità e si conserva tuttora nella cattedrale di Narni.
